This important study of real-world, routinely collected, patient-reported outcomes is one of only a few reports that correlate patient-reported outcomes with the mRS and the NIH Stroke Scale, comparing stroke patients to the general population on 8 health domains (physical function, satisfaction with social roles, executive function, pain interference, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and sleep).
Overall, the findings of the consequences of stroke on social participation and cognitive functioning bring attention to the need to routinely monitor and address outcomes that matter to patients as part of overall rehabilitation.
