Background And Purpose

Method

In 2010, ACTION was founded by Professor Shaoshi Wang (the head of Neurology Department of Shanghai No. 4 People’s Hospital) and Professor Stephen Davis (then Director of Neurology Department of Royal Melbourne Hospital and Past-President of World Stroke Organization), Associate Professor Bernard Yan (Royal Melbourne Hospital).

Conclusion

The massive problem of stroke, the leading cause of death and disability in China, is being addressed by key educational programs for Chinese doctors involving a faculty of Chinese stroke leaders and Australian col- leagues. While stroke metrics have improved in China, intensive and coordinated national efforts are crucial to meet this challenge. Public education is also paramount as shown by the success of the ‘‘Red Bracelet Campaign.’’ The Chinese programs could well be adopted in other rapidly developing regions in other parts of the World, where the term ‘‘stroke pan- demic’’ has been used, in large part due to the aging of populations in low- and middle-income countries

Main results

In March 2017, the SCA was founded in Pudong, Shanghai. It is sponsored by the Chinese Stroke Association and the American Heart Association/ America Stroke Association, led by Professors Yongjun Wang and Liping Liu, and managed by Professor Shaoshi Wang. This program focuses on the advanced training of neurologists in all provinces and autonomic regions. The curriculum was developed by CSA and AHA/ASA, and audited by Professor Shaoshi Wang.
