Baseline participant characteristics for men and women were compared using the x2 test for categorical variables and t-tests for continuous variables. Categorical variables were presented as percentages while continuous variables were presented as mean with SD or median with interquartile range. Interaction terms were created between sex and each ASCVD risk score in multivariable linear regression models. Multivariable linear regression models, stratified by sex, were built to investigate the associations of each ASCVD risk score (i.e. continuous and categorical ASCVD risk scores) with domain and test-specific cognition Z scores. As age was accounted for in the calculations of ASCVD risk scores, this was not included as a covariate during statistical analyses. Education, marital status, income levels, Body Mass Index (BMI), drinking and baseline MoCA were adjusted for as potential confounders in the multi-adjusted model. p <0·05 was considered statistically significant. The estimated effect sizes shown as s and 95% CI were presented in the models. Statistical analyses were all performed with SAS 9·4 (SAS Institute Inc, Cary, NC).
