High adherence to antihypertensive therapy, and the associated blood pressure control, reduces the risk of initial stroke when used as primary prevention [1–3]. Kettani et al. [1] found that patients with high adherence to antihypertensive therapy (>=80% calcu-lated using the medication possession ratio) had a significantly lower risk of cerebrovascular disease, compared with patients with lower adherence. However, to our knowledge, the relationship between adherence to antihypertensive therapy after stroke and clinical outcomes has not been studied. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between persistence with antihyperten-sive therapy after ischemic stroke and rates of death and depen-dency in patients with hypertension.
