Background And Purpose

The role of classic cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure, blood glucose and atherogenic lipoproteins in the generation of atherosclerosis has been well proved. In addition, the role of inflammatory factors such as CRP in cardio-cerebrovascular diseases has also been concerned recently [1]. At the same time, the Strategic Planning Task Force of The American Heart Association recently introduced the concept of ideal cardiovascular health. Previous study has verified the cumulative effect of lipid-carrying lipoproteins on the risk of cardiovascular disease [2]. In addition, the high variability of traditional risk factors within a long period has also been revealed the as an independent predictor of mortality and cardiovascular events [3]. This suggests that we should not only focus on the absolute value of risk factors at a certain timing, but also pay attention to the cumulative effect of these risk factors with the extension of time. To explore whether the burden of risk factor can predict the occurrence of vascular events and the predictive value may help to promote the primary prevention. The purpose of this study is to explore the value of the cumulative effect of cardiovascular risk factors in predicting vascular events.

Method

Cumulative vascular events will be estimated by kaplan-meier analysis. Cox hazard model will be applied for the analysis and comparison of HR of composite events between the groups. Model 1, 2 and 3 will be adjusted for risk factors progressively, and Model 4, 5 and 6 will be applied for sensitivity analysis.

Conclusion

We demonstrated the correlation between cumulative burden of CVRFs and cardiovascular risk, except for cumulative burden of hs-CRP and ischaemic stroke. Thus, our study suggests the necessity to extend the observation duration of CVRFs in order to elucidate the life-course cumulative effect.
