Background And Purpose

Method

We summarize and explain the various multimodal CT acquisition techniques within three categories based on the scanning mode, namely static mode (single-phase CTA), multiple static mode (multi-phase CTA) and continuous mode (CT perfusion and dynamic CTA). Post-processing methods based on different acquisition modes are also introduced in an easy manner by focusing on the information extracted and products generated. We also describe the applications for these techniques along with their advantages and disadvantages

Conclusion

In this review, we systematically introduce and summarize multimodal CT techniques that can be used to demonstrate cerebral vascular and blood flow in a relatively easy way. We focused on the basic principle of the techniques and the way they work considering clinical needs instead of focusing solely on complicated technical concepts. Understanding these fundamentals may be helpful for clinicians to better interpret imaging results and select appropriate imaging methods for particular needs. Moreover, with the knowledge of current technique principles, it would be much easier to understand further emerging techniques and to determine their individual clinical utility.
