Background And Purpose

Limited therapies are available to patients with stroke due to ICAS, who are at particularly high risk of a recurrent stroke. In the recent CHANCE-3 trial, conducted 2022–2023, the effect of colchicine on rates of early recurrent stroke differed according to age (interaction p = 0.02), raising the hypothesis that patients younger than 65 years of age may benefitfrom colchicine.

Method

Cox proportional hazards regression was performed with treatment, presence of sICAS, and the treatment by presence of sICAS interaction as covariates, to test the interaction between the differential effects of colchicine versus placebo on efficacy and safety outcomes.
